What Advertisers Consider Before Working With Blogs

Approaching a blog from the standpoint of a business is a tricky thing, especially if you don’t have the numbers. It’s not impossible to advertise. Many blogs already do this very same thing, but you should also know that just because you have a site doesn’t automatically mean that advertisers are going to be knocking down your virtual door. There’s a lot of sites out there and protocol to be followed.

Remember, don’t take it personally if you get a “no” response. If you’ve tried to contact or in touch with advertisers and you’re not having a lot of luck, don’t get discouraged. Advertisers are in the business to make money for their clients. If they don’t think you’ll generate the kinds of sales or exposure they want, then they’re not going to work with you.

Before you can do anything, you have to increase the exposure and scale of your blog. You grow your blog in many ways and you’ll want to expand your outreach and consider colocation hosting . Before you start trying to approach advertisers, here’s a few of things that factor into their decision on whether to work with you or not:

What’s Your Niche

One of the first things that advertisers consider is the niche or focus of your blog. If you’re writing a blog about financing, you’re going to have a hard time selling your space to a tech advertiser. You want to start within your wheelhouse and approach advertisers that have products or services that relate to what you’re talking about. This isn’t always the case, and, sometimes, you’ll see a site that hosts ads that seem to have absolutely nothing to do with the niche of the blog. If you’re just starting out and trying to sell your ad space, stick with relevant material.

What’s Your Rank

If you have a low Google search ranking, you’re not likely to get anyone to advertise with you. Even if you can sell some of your space, you won’t get a lot of money for it. You need to have a Google Search Rank of about 4 before it will even begin to be worth you effort.

Number Of Visits

This is one of the most important factors when establishing a relationship with advertisers. They want to know that their ads are getting seen and they’re going to look very closely at how many hits and unique visitors you’re getting on a daily/monthly basis. To make more money with advertising, you need to think bigger and more visitors. This is, in part, your responsibility and getting a larger network of visitors is the key to generating a substantial income through advertising. You can use social media, guest blogging, and colocation pricing to expand the scale of your blog.

It’s all about how much attention your blog is receiving. If you’re thinking about giving up on your site because you’re not making any money, think of getting bigger before you scale down your site. You have to approach your blog like a business before anyone will want to do business with you. Regular posts and updates, active users, and scale of services all factor into how much you make with your space and how successful you’ll be. It might take some time before you can make good money, but consider your time spent as an investment rather than a loss.
