iPhone 5S August, iPad 5 / Mini 2 April

While Samsung’s Galaxy S IV has been making the rumor roundup headlines ahead of its debut next week, it wouldn’t be a week in tech news without at least a couple of stories on Apple’s next big thing.

One of the most interesting stories has to do with the timing of the release of Apple’s next generation of iOS products. The current generation iPhone 5 is rumored to be followed by the iPhone 5S, while the current iPad 4 and iPad Mini will be followed by the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2. Hardly a revelation, but the details are noteworthy.

iPhone-5S

The iPhone 5S will be an internal upgrade over the iPhone 5, like the iPhone 4S was to the iPhone 4 before it. We’ll see a faster processor and an improved camera – potentially Apple will finally make the jump to 13-megapixels, as seems to be the trend these days.

Meanwhile on the iPad side of the square, we’ve got the next full sized iPad in the iPad 5, as well as that aforementioned iPad Mini 2. The iPad 5 should include a redesign to make it resemble the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini, while the iPad Mini 2 will get a higher resolution display – likely a Retina 2048 x 1536 screen that should look fantastically pixel dense thanks to the iPad Mini’s smaller diagonal measurement.

According to this particular rumor  the iPhone 5S will be released in August this year. The new iPads are much closer to an appearance though, with their release prophesied for next month – April.

While we’ve seen some iPad and iPad Mini cases over the past few weeks, it’s still not a given that we’ll see them so soon. I guess barring any other major leaks, we’ll only really know about it when Apple release their next press event invitation.

What do you make of the rumors? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading and have a good one!
