Leaked Lenovo Tablet Will Come With Tegra 3 & Ice Cream Sandwich By Christmas

Boy, do tablet manufacturers ever love Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chipset. Add Lenovo to the list of tech giants that have recently leaked details of their upcoming tablets that’ll be based on the quad-core system-on-chip, which also includes HTC and Asus.

Asus were the first to make the move a few weeks back, announcing that their Asus Transformer Prime would be the first device to ship with the new chipset. The Transformer Prime is expected to launch in December, but no firm release date has been given. HTC also had details of their upcoming tablet leaked, but this one isn’t expected to be released until after February next year.

The Lenovo leak, which came courtesy of Engadget, describes a quick tablet even by Tegra 3 standards. The 10.1″ Lenevo tablet will come with the CPU’s maximum clock speed of 1.6 GHz as well as 2 GB of high speed 1.6 GHz RAM. That’s twice the amount of RAM as the Transformer Prime. As with all of these Tegra 3 titans, the tablet is expected to come with the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich.

There also seem to be a few special features of note on the tablet, including a ‘special fusion-skin body’ (no idea what that means) and a fingerprint scanner that also serves as an optical joystick on the rear panel of the tablet. The Lenovo tablet will also come with a USB on-the-go port, allowing mice, keyboards and USB storage to be plugged in.

We’ll likely have an actual product announcement on our hands pretty shortly, as the tablet is expected to be launched by December this year, the same as the Transformer.

It’s going to be a crowded market, particularly in 2012 as Apple is rumoured to be shipping their own quad-core iPad 3, which may also come with an incredibly high resolution screen. For now though, the ball is firmly in Android’s court — either of these two devices, the Transformer Prime and this Lenovo tablet, look dramatically better than any other tablet released to date.
