Popular iOS accessory manufacturer Mophie have unveiled their latest creation: The Mophie Juice Pack Air. The new item is a combination iPhone 5 charger and case, adding an extra 1700 mAh of battery life to your iPhone 5 without the hassle of carrying around a seperate portable charger and using that extra bulk as protection for your phone.
The Juice Pack Air will provide the following benefits over a standard iPhone 5 with no battery case installed:
- 8 hours of additional talk time (3G)
- 8 hours of additional internet use (3G/LTE)
- 10 hours of additional internet use (WiFi)
- 40 hours of additional audio playback
- 10 hours of additional video playback
The case has other functions too, of course. Point number one is that it’ll protect your phone, with full cover to cover protection that goes further than many other cases and should provide good resistance to all kinds of scratches and knocks. The case also includes a speaker redirection chamber that should result in marginally better sound.
All in all then, quite a comprehensive upgrade over a stock iPhone 5, although obviously you’re paying the price in terms of size, weight and bulk. You’re also paying a small premium over the existing Mophie Juice Pack Helium, which offers 1500 mAh of extra battery power at $20 less. That means you’re paying $10 per extra 100 mAh – not a brilliant deal, but a worthwhile one if you want the top-of-the-line experience.
For the road warrior that needs to ensure that their phone lasts for a couple of days at a stretch, this could be just the thing.
